Wv Babysitting Laws

Most states don`t have laws setting an age requirement for child custody, and only some have guidelines on how old a child is before being left home alone. These guidelines range from six to 14 years. Here is a list of states with this policy: Colorado: 12*, Delaware: 12*, Georgia: 8*, Illinois: 14, Kansas: 6*, Maryland: 8, Michigan: 11*, Mississippi: 12*, Nebraska: 7*, New Mexico: 10*, North Carolina: 8, North Dakota: 9*, Oregon: 10*, Tennessee: 10* and Washington: 10*. The American Red Cross offers childcare and childcare classes to prepare course participants with universal skills and techniques that every babysitter should have. These courses are available online for those who prefer to study as they please or in a personal classroom with access to highly qualified teachers and classroom activities. These courses include basic care for infants and children, basic first aid, child behaviour, emergency protocols, leadership and age-appropriate activities. The Red Cross also offers CPR/AED first aid and certification courses. The “right” or “minimum age” to let someone start caring is a subjective issue. Factors such as the age and maturity of the child or dependent children and the maturity of the caregiver are important to consider, as well as the amount of care the child or dependent children require. This includes the number of hours and special care the child or children require. “Related home child care” means a home that provides out-of-home child care only to children who are related to the caregiver.  The caregiver is a grandparent, great-grandparent, aunt, uncle, great-aunt, great-uncle or adult sibling of the child or children being cared for.

Care is provided in the provider`s home. `needs assessment` means an evidence-based assessment that identifies the needs of a child or family that, if not addressed, are likely to increase the likelihood of recidivism; (vi) To adopt principles consistent with the mission of the Cabinet as part of its philosophy. “Standardized screening” means a brief inventory or validated non-diagnostic questionnaire used to identify adolescents who require further assessment for medical, substance abuse, emotional, psychological, behavioral, educational, or other medical conditions. Definition of Home Child Care Facility: A home child care centre serves groups of seven (7) to twelve (12) children for four (4) hours or more per day. Care may be provided at the operator`s home or in an establishment not occupied by the provider. “Evidence-based practices” refers to policies, procedures, programs and practices that have been shown by research to reliably reduce the likelihood of relapse. W. Va. Code R. § 78-1-3.54. “Family support” within the meaning of articles 49-2-601 et seq. of this Code are goods and services that families need to care for family members with developmental disabilities and enjoy a quality of life comparable to that of other members of the community. Home child care is home care provided for part of the day in a private family home for a fee. The home must be occupied by the family or caregiver and the provider`s hours of operation must not exceed eighteen (18) hours in any 24-hour period. According to state law, only family childcare for 4-6 children should be regulated.

Under the WV Code, Chapter 49-2B-9, home child care providers who care for fewer than four children (informal home child care) or only related children (home child care) are exempt from state legal requirements. However, these informal and related providers may be allowed to receive subsidies through the childcare certificate system. The following conditions apply to these three types of home child care providers. “Facility” means a place or dwelling, including personnel, structures, land and equipment, used for the care of one or more children on a residential or other basis, for any number of hours per day in a dwelling or structure maintained for that purpose.  The institution does not include juvenile detention centres or juvenile detention centres operated by or under contract with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to house or detain juveniles in their custody. This rule does not apply to daycares that offer programs for school-aged children who are not kindergarten students. These programs are licensed under 78CSR1, Child Care Licences.
